The retreat

What this week is about

Rishikesh sits where the Ganges tumbles out of the Himalayas, turquoise and cold and impossibly loud with bells at dawn. This is the trip for anyone curious about where yoga comes from, beyond the postures and the pretty leggings.

Days follow a gentle rhythm: hatha and pranayama at sunrise, philosophy and chai mid morning, karma yoga or seva projects after lunch, and quiet walks along the ghats as the aarti lamps float downstream at dusk.

Our host teachers have trained here for over twenty years. They will push your bandhas and your assumptions in equal measure, kindly.

Highlights

  • Sunrise Ganga aarti ceremony from our private terrace
  • Daily philosophy talks on the Yoga Sutras
  • Walk to a forest ashram above the town
  • White water rafting on one free afternoon
  • Vegetarian sattvic meals cooked fresh daily

Where you stay

A simple, spotless riverside guesthouse with a rooftop shala facing the water and rooms that hear the river all night.

Day by day

A shape for the week, room to breathe inside it

Twice daily practice anchors every day. Everything else moves with the weather, the group and the moment. Consider this the honest sketch, not a contract.

Day 1

Arrival in Dehradun

Airport pickup and the winding drive down into the valley. Evening orientation and an early night.

Day 2

The rhythm begins

First sunrise practice, first rooftop chai, first walk past the suspension bridge and all its monkey traffic.

Day 3 to 5

Into the practices

Hatha and pranayama build through the week. Afternoon philosophy with our senior teacher. Optional sound healing sessions.

Day 6

Forest ashram day

A morning hike to a hilltop ashram, silence until lunch, and a long afternoon of doing very little, beautifully.

Day 7

Rafting or rest

Choose the rapids or choose the hammock. Both are valid spiritual paths, we checked.

Day 8

Seva morning

We volunteer at the local school garden, then celebrate with the town's best samosas.

Day 9

Closing the circle

Final practice, final aarti, and a dinner where nobody wants to check the time.
