A day at our Bali retreat, hour by hour

The first thing to know is that nothing on a retreat is compulsory except meals, and even then, if you sleep through breakfast because jet lag won the night, we will save you a plate. This is a holiday for your nervous system, not a bootcamp.

Still, a shape to the day is why retreats work. Here is how a regular Tuesday unfolds at our Bali Jungle Flow week.

5:45 am, the jungle wakes first

You will hear the roosters before your alarm, then the cicadas, then someone sweeping the deck below your window. Coffee and tea appear in the dining pavilion around six. Nobody talks much before practice and nobody expects you to.

7:00 am, practice on the deck

Morning vinyasa runs ninety minutes, usually the strongest practice of the day. The deck sits above the river valley so the mist burns off slowly while you move. Beginners get variations within the first five minutes and nobody is ever singled out.

9:00 am, brunch, the meal people write home about

Our cooks set out fruit you have never heard of, black rice porridge, eggs however you like them, and the coconut pancakes that cause the most recipe requests. Meals are long and loud in the best way. This is where friendships happen.

12:00 to 4:00 pm, yours

Tuesday is a home base day. People read by the pool, get massages, walk to the village for a coconut, or do absolutely nothing, which is harder than it sounds and gets easier by day three.

5:00 pm, yin and wind down

Evening practice is slow: long floor shapes, candles, and often the sound of rain somewhere across the valley. Dinner follows around seven, earlier than you think you want it and exactly as good as you hope.

9:00 pm, lights low

Most nights people drift to their rooms by nine, pleasantly wrecked in the gentlest possible way. You will sleep eight hours and wake up confused about why you feel so good.

That is the honest version. No incense enforced, no group trust falls, no juice only days. Just a well built day, repeated until it rewires you a little.
